Side & Heel

Charlie is has been working on how to be comfortable walking with Olivia on both her left and right sides as well as practicing his skills on both the left and right.  The word Heel tells Charlie that the handler would like him on their left and the word Side tells him that they want him on their right.  The veterans that America's VetDogs serves have a variety of disabilities that limit the use of their bodies.  Having a service dog that can comfortably complete tasks from both sides of the handler is necessary for the veteran's independence.
